Economic Effects of Immigration Essay - 3505 Words

The most avidly debated effects of immigration involve the United States’ economy and labor force. It is estimated that there are 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States today, and their impact on the economy can be perceived as positive as well as negative. The overall effect is unclear, and this essay will present both sides of the debate. Many economic factors have been influenced by an increasing number of immigrants that have entered our country. Population growth has had a direct effect on our economy. The rate of population increase and how equip the United States is to handle this growth could have many different effects on the economy that could be considered productive or destructive to our economy.†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, many could argue that immigration has had an extreme effect on our job market and immigrants are occupying jobs that should belong to American citizens. Either side of the argument on immigration contains valid points that are worth discussing and considering in the debate over economic effects that immigrants pose on this country. There are many arguments and many different view points on this complex subject, but the attempt throughout this paper will involve balanced arguments from both sides of the issue concerning economic effects in result of increased populatio n from immigration, how our welfare and government funded programs have been affected by immigration economically, and the economic effects that immigration has had on our labor markets. Population growth has occurred immensely throughout the world and projected tracts show a considerable increase within the United States and throughout the world through the year 2050. Population growth at an overwhelming rate can cause many effects on a society. More people within the United States can result in fewer resources for citizens. To increase these sources we must produce more, and to achieve this we must use our economic resources. Immigration into the United States has been so prevalent during the past few decades that it has had a significant effect over the growth rate of our population. â€Å"If immigration continues at itsShow MoreRelatedEconomic Effects of Immigration in the Uk Essay1163 Words   |  5 PagesEconomic Effects of Immigration in the UK Within the past ten years, immigration has tripled in the UK. Our Babies, Ourselves, By Meredith Small - 1752 Words

In Meredith Small’s article Our Babies, Ourselves she focuses on people’s social and psychological development through examining the different cultural aspects of raising a child. During this process she compares the American perspective of treating babies, to those of the Gusii and the Dutch. Throughout her examination many points are made that I believe can give the reader’s a valuable understanding of the impact of different means of parenthood on a child’s future development. First and foremost, I would like to examine the American culture. In America the idea of individualism is the most prevalent when speaking in terms of raising a child. Most parents will not hold their babies as much as in other cultures, and they place them in rooms of their own to sleep in as Meredith points out in her article. Furthermore, in most cases American parents will simply ignore the cries of their child in order to instill the idea of individualism and self-reliance at a young age. It is my belief that this idea of self-reliance was instill in all Americans within the foundation of our country. Our country is a capitalist nation that if you work hard enough you can do anything you want to, but also whoever is the best will essentially be at the top of this hierarchical system. Therefore, I believe that the reason American parents decide to instill this since of individualism within their children, is in hope that they will remember these values as they continue growing an d one day faceShow MoreRelatedVampire Diaries61771 Words   |  248 Pagesthe time difference between France and here. Equipment’s It Invests In Property Market â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Equipments It Invests In Property Market? Answer: Introducation Accounts receivable refer to the amount that the business organizations expect to receive from their debtors as a result of credit sales. Evaluation: From the case study, it has been seen that the trade receivable official nhas all the required steps related to accounts receivable. For example, in case of medical instrument return by the consumer, the respected official drawn credit notes in favor of the customer after investigating the reasons behind the return and the documentation process. Moreover, officials sent the related journal postings along with receipts to the bank for the preparation of deposit slip. Thus, it can be seen that the risk is high. Audit Risk: The trade relievable has undertaken all the necessary steps related to receivables. The risk involved in this case is that the trade receivable officials might inflate the receivables in order to show lesser amount of receivables (Arens, Elder Mark, 2012). Audit Steps to Reduce Risk: In order to reduce the accounts receivable risk of GPSA, the officials must separate out different actions related to the accounts receivable among the staffs. Investment: Investment refers to a particular amount of money that can be converted into cash within a period of three to twelve months. Thus, it is considered as cash equivalent. Evaluation: Business investment use to influence the whole accounting systems of the companies and this, it needs to be differently treated. Hence, risk related to investments is medium. Audit Risk: Risk in investments arrive when the investments are done without taking into consideration the related risk factors with it. Audit Steps to Reduce Risk: It is needed to inspect the return from investments on a regular basis. Moreover, the investment process, the related investment trends needs to be analyzed. Property Assets and Resources: The accounts associated with this are considered as fixed assets and the depreciation related with the fixed assets. Evaluation: The ineffective registration of fixed assets and ineffective calculation of depreciation can negatively affect the financial statements of the companies. Thus, the risk is high associated with property assets and resources (Vona, 2012). Audit Risk: Audit risk can be arrived in case the accounts do not differentiate the utilization of resources for more than 180 days and less than 180 days and they do not record this effectively. Audit Steps to Reduce Risk: It is needed to maintain the ledger of these accounts properly in order to bring coordination between purchase and sales. In addition, the amount of impairment also needs to be evaluated. Intangible Assets: The major accounts related with intangible assets are goodwill, patents, copyright and others. Evaluation: The thorough examination of intangible assets is required in order to determine the value and recognition mode. The definite or indefinite life period of them needs to be determined. Thus, risk related to these assets is high. Audit Risk: It is difficult to ascertain the fair value of intangible assets as they do not have any physical existence. Apart from this, variance can be seen between the acquirement cost and fair value of intangible assets (William Jr, Glover Prawitt, 2016). Audit Steps to Reduce Risk: The professionals need to determine the fair value of the intangible assets. Audit risk can be reduced by implementing control over the process to determine the fair value of the intangible assets. Capitalization of Firms Research and Development: It can be seen that GPSA research activities were not growing and thus, it is possible that both the profit and loss accounts are debited. Evaluation: A very thin gap can be seen between the successful and unsuccessful research. Ineffective recognition can lead to high risk as the research processes include high amount of money. Audit Risk: Inherent audit risks can be seen in case of unsuccessful research processes. Furthermore, it is difficult to mention the specific amount of money related with the research process (Ashley-Smith, 2013). Audit Steps to Reduce Risk: It is needed to properly examine all the ledger accounts related with these researches. In addition, it is needed to carry out a marker research before involving in any kinds of research activities. The evaluation of major ratios is discussed below: Return on Equity: In case of return of equity, a downward trend can be observed in return on equity of the company as it decreased from 22.7% in 2015 to 7.19% in 2017. It indicates the decreased capacity of the company to generate profit from investments. Thus, major risks can be seen in profitability on equity of the company (Hevert, 2013). Earned Return on Total Assets: In case of return on total assets, a downward trend can also be observed as it decreased from 15.52% in 2015 to 4.86% in 2017. It indicates that the capacity of the company to generate income before tax and to gain tax against resources has reduced. Thus, it is a major risk in the company (Kabajeh, Al Nuaimat Dahmash, 2012). Net Profit Margin Analysis: Declining trend can also be seen in the net profit margin of the company as in dreaded from 17.85% in 2015 to 10.38% in 2017. It shows the reduced capacity of the company to earn profits and leads to the high risk of profitability. This is one of the major financial risks of the companies as the company is failing in the generation of higher net profit (Stahl et al., 2012). Time Earned Ratio Analysis: The capacity of the company to earn interest has decreased as the times earned ratio decreased from 4.10 in 2015 to 1.90 in 2017. It leads to the financial risks as the firm is losing its capacity to earn interest incomes. Days in Accounts Receivable: It can be seen that there has been an increase in the days in accounts receivable from 53.24 in 2015 days to 83.07 in 2017. This aspect increases the bad debt risk of the company for the increase in the chance to not recover the receivables (Michalski, 2013). Current Ratio Analysis: A riding trend can be seen in the current ration of the company. However, it needs to mention that in 2016, the current ratio was 1.80. Thus, the risk of not utilizing the working capital of the company remains high (Babalola Abiola, 2013). Debt to Equity Ratio Analysis: Higher debt to equity ratio that is more than one show the high leverage of the company and it implies that the company is hugely dependent on long-term debts. This aspect increases the financial risk of the companies, as the company has to pay higher amount of money as interest expenses (Palley, 2013). The internal control in the system is discussed below: (a) Effective Control Bonus Disbursement: Shareholders of the companies can assess the bonus paid to the managers. The responsible person to prepare budget needs to be asked to explain the reasons for budget variance (Soudani, 2012). Password Protection: Passwords helped the form in protecting various applications to restrict free admittance. It is needed to assess the success of the companys IT system. Permitting Discount: In the company, the system is to obtain permission from sales director in order to provide the customers with various discounts (Soudani, 2012). Trade Receivable: At the time to close the accounts, the trade receivables are merged with the debtor accounts. Aging Evaluation: After considering the amount of all the invoices, the aged evaluation of receivables is done with the assistance of computerized systems. Financial controller of the firm is responsible for this evaluation. The responsible officials for receivable management are asked to produce the reasons behind the delays in payments. Doubtful Debt: As a part of the follow up strategy of the companys doubtful debts, further shipments to the specific customers are refused in case of the not payment of required minimum amount (Soudani, 2012). (b) Risk Alleviated Admittance to Database: Even in the presence of strong password to access the companys specific programs, it can be seen that there is not any password protection of the database of the firm that increases the risk of unlawful access. Physical Delivery Notes: Shipping tiles to the customers increases the amount of manual notes. Increased amount of notes leads to the increase risks in making mistakes in these notes (Chopra Sodhi, 2014). Single Individual Responsible for Diverse Activities: It can be seen in the company that a single person is responsible for carrying on diverse business operations. A single clerk is responsible for issuing of credit notes, documentation of reasons, management of trade receivables and many others. Thus, the chance to make mistakes by the clerk increases (Chopra Sodhi, 2014). (c) Test of Control Test of control is one of the major processes of audit to examine the internal control of the companies. The classification of test of control is done below: Re-performance: As a part of this system, there is the introduction of a new transaction for the examination of internal control (Numan Willekens, 2012). Inspection: In this process, the assessment of important documents is done with the help of stamps and authorized signatures. Observation: In this system, all the business processes ate observed and assessed in order to bring improvements. The control systems are discussed below: Bonus Distribution: In order to distribute bonus, internal control system can be used. Password Protection: In order to protect the passwords, the inspection tactic of control can be used. Discount Allowance: In case of the allowance of discounts, the tactic of re-performance can be used. Trade Receivable: The performance of re-performance can be used for the management of trade receivables. Aging Analysis: Both the tactics of observation and inspection can be used in this regard. Doubtful Debt: In this situation, the re-performance tactics can be used (Numan Willekens, 2012). The weaknesses in sales and trade receivables are discussed below: Sales Bonus to the management is provided based on the sales volume of the company. This is a weakness as the sale s figures can be increased with the help of manipulation. Manual declarations for sales can include the chance for mistakes and faults. The chance of misplacement on the sales journals cannot be ignored, as they are produced monthly basis (Skaife, Veenman Wangerin, 2013). Trade Receivables It can be seen that the trade receivables officials are also responsible for business receivables. This reason can lead to the unintentional mistakes or errors in the financial statements. This is a major weakness in trade receivables. At the end of every month, the trade receivables are merged with the bank receipts. This aspect represents an extensive period for the settlement of some of the key items of the company like receivables (Skaife, Veenman Wangerin, 2013). References Arens, A. A., Elder, R. Relationship of frictional force related to the sinkage depth Essay Example

Relationship of frictional force related to the sinkage depth Paper The graph above shows the data that establishes the relationship between rolling resistance of the bicycle and the sinkage depth of the tire on the sand bed. The relationship is found to be linear and is the only linear relationship in the whole experiment . As the sinkage depth of the tire increases the rolling resistance of the tire also increases . This shows that rolling resistance is directly proportional to sinkage depth . As we saw above the relationship between sinkage depth and the air pressure of the tire is varied and at the best can be explained by a polynomial trend . Arriving at the final conclusion for the rolling resistance based on the sole evidence of the sinkage depth on behalf of the air pressure of the tire. We can state that in order to determine the best possible value for the least resistance we would have to arrive at the a value offers the least sinkage depth for a given air pressure in order to attain the least rolling resistance the tire faces and optimize the force efficiency . Rolling resistance in this case is primarily caused due to a characteristic of a deformable material such that energy of deformation is greater than the energy of recovery . The hysteresis causes the tire tire to lose energy due to the constant stretch and recovery . Looking at the results obtained from the experiment and the trends observed it can be stated that the primary cause that has affected the rolling resistance by the tire due its sinkage depth is the compressibility of the sand and the elasticity of the tire . The compressibility of the sand or compaction resistance is usually produced in this case by the work done by the cycle in making a rut of the depth . Another factor affecting the rolling resistance due to the sinakge depth is the amount of sand displaced by the tire in displacing the soil. The wheel compresses in the sand pushes out the sand from its original place. Hence as the work done by the bicycle increases in order to remove the sand from the original place the rolling resistance increases. The bulldozing resistance is mitigated by the fact that a portion of the soil is pushed to the sides of the wheel. The results from the experiment show polynomical trend rather than a linear trend . the most desirable data for the rolling resistance would be the sinkage depth as the rolling resistance force is directly proportional to the sinkage depth . The graph starts off with a sinkage depth of 0. 98 cm due to 49. 04 kPa and decreases until it reaches 0. 2 cm from which the value of the sinkage depth starts to increase . At 147. 12 kPA the tire has a considerable amount f air inflated . The amount of the air inflated is between the range of the air pressure classified as underflated an overflated. The ideal air pressure which in this case is 147. 12 kPa increases the thread area of the tire on the sand bed , increasing the width of the tore on the sand which causes the force of the tire on the sand to be spread out in the surface rather actually penetration the sand bed . At 49kPa and 98kPa there the tire is almost mildly inflated . With the tires fully inflated capacity being 320. 26kPA , these two pressure allow the tire to be inflated just 15. 3% and 30. 6% of their maximum capacity respectively . While pedaling the bicycle because of the lack of the air pressure of the tire and bicycle frame comes in close contact and force the sidewalls of the tire to flex due to the force that is being applied and pushes the bicycle deep into the sand bed due to this flexing phenomenon . From the above data we cannot establish linear relationship between air pressure and sinkage depth . There are many factors that affect the sinkage depth of a tire due to the air pressure . The air pressure of the tire causes the tread material in the tire to expand as it is partially filled and when the tread material is on the sand it adjusts the frame and the tread in a suitable manner . However as the air pressure in the tire increases and the tire is capacity for the air pressure reduces , the air that is present in the tire has less freedom to move around so as to adjust the frame and the tread of the tire in order to efficiently place itself . Hence as the air pressure in the tire begins to fill the tire up completely the sinkage depth in the tire increases . The air pressure in the tire limits the thread from spreading out the force on the sand and hence on a surface area of the sand as the force increases because it can’t be spread out the pressure on the sand increases and the tire sinks in deeper . Our research question which formed the basis of the essay was How does change in Sinkage depth of a tire affect the rolling resistance . The main of this experiment was to establish a relationship between sinkage depth of the tire and the rolling resistance it faces . The experiment involved allowing a bicycle , with specific air pressure which was measured using an air pressure gauge , with trainers to roll down a wooden ramp of length 5 meters and width 3 metres inclined at an angle of 45 ° to the ground . The bicycle after rolling down from the ramp rolled on a sand bed that was smoothened and softened by hand . The sand was wetted by adding 250cm3 of tap water in a linear manner , in order to make the sand retentive of the sinkage marks made by the tire. The reading of the sinkage depth was measured with the help of a vernier caliper. Consequently, the rolling resistance was calculated using these values . At the end of the experiment we successfully derived a linear relationship between the sinkage depth of the tire and the rolling resistance. The rolling resistance that the tire faces is directly proportional to the sinkage depth of the tire. Hence as the sinkage depth of the tire increases so does the rolling resistance 9it faces . In order to find the air pressure of the tire propagates the rolling resistance , we have to find the air pressure which has the least rolling resistance value . The absolute uncertainties that were obtained in our experiment for the rolling resistance were low , this shows that the values that we have obtained are precise . Performing this experiment at a small scale makes the rolling resistance negliblie. The devices that were used to measure the numerical values had a low least count . From the results that have been , there is a high possibility of the presence of random errors since the values that have been recorded show an inconsistency at unlikely events during the experiment. The experiment involved focusing on a variable and its outcome on a particular event . At best this approach can be considered incomplete as there are others factors present in the experiment that might affected the rolling resistance equally if not partially . There is a high possibility that the temperature also a major impact on the experiment and hence further areas for research include involving temperature as a variable in deciding if sinkage depth alone affects the rolling resistance linearly . Another area left for research and investigation is to find a quantitative data for the rolling resistance coefficient. In the experiment we found several data for the rolling resistance co-efficient , however we couldn’t compare this to a literature value due to a lack of research of bicycles on sand . Limitations in the model The limitations in the experiment that has been performed mainly arises from the various assumptions that have been made . The sand that was used as for the sand bed was procured from an open sea beach. Although the sand was smoothened and sieved there is a high possibility that the sand contained minute impurities such as small fragments of shell which might have had an counter-effect on the compressibility of the sand. It is also possible that the there was a high content of salt deposits on the sand as the sea water contained salt and the water from the sand had evaporated leaving behind salt deposits on the sand . We could have instead used soil instead as a surface bought from the market as this would be possibly have more uniformity than the sand . As mentioned in the method of investigation , the cycle had trainers attached to them while it rolled down the ramp in order to balance the cycle as it rolled down and prevent it from falling over . Since the trainers are wheels it is possible that they too contributed to the rolling resistance that the bicycle faced . However since all the quantitative values were recorded when the cycle was attached with trainers , the trainers have uniformly affected the rolling resistance in each trial and hence has no overall effect on the trend . The experiment also involved pouring a specific amount of water on the sand in order to increase the retentive ability if the sand . However , what has not been established in the experiment is the right amount of water that should be added to sand in order to increase the retentive ability . An increased amount of water in the sand will reduce the elasticity of the sand even though increasing the retentive ability of the sand. This will be detrimental to the experiment the actual sinkage depth of the tire will be reduced . Also , water was poured on the sand only once during the experiment . there is also a possibility that the water evaporated during the experiment , hence reducing the retentive ability of the sand and causing a discrepancy in the values obtained. The experiment was performed on in the outdoors during the day . The heat of sunlight was transferred to these materials used in the experiment , but since these materials have different thermal absorption capacitates their temperature might have varied. an abrupt increase in temperature induces a transient friction response similar to that induced by a step decrease in velocity ( Chester , 2012 ) . Since sand has a higher thermal capacity than wood the change in the temperature might cause a discrepancy . in order to control this variable we could have performed the experiment indoors with the temperature controlled by an air conditioner at 25a µC .

You Signed Up for a Conference †Now What

You Signed Up for a Conference – Now What You paid your conference fee and reserved your motel room. Now what? Youre finally going to a writers conference, but now that you think about it, you arent sure what to do once you get there. First, make sure this is a conference that suits your needs. If you are unpublished and seeking agents or publishers, then dont stick to a conference that focuses on craft, and vice versa. Make sure the majority of the classes fit your goals.Second, while youre researching this conference, dig deeper and research the teachers, agents, and so on. What about these people merits sticking them up in front of a class? If you see teachers that really havent published much, think twice. Anybody can teach. You want teachers who have published and performed, as well. Third, participate in at least one critique or pitch session. Unless you are green as a gourd and just dipping your toe in the water, you have a piece youve been working on. Toss it into the fray and see what feedback you get. They might rip it up, but thats okay. You show youve got guts and you walk away much more educated than you were before. Fourth, plan your agenda. Dont wait until you get there to decide what you want to attend. They publish that schedule ahead of time for a reason. Map out your days and evenings to include the questions you want to ask and the goals you hope to achieve. Get the most of your sessions. Fifth, meet at least one new person per session. Speak to those at your table or seated around you. Theres a wealth of networking opportunity available to you at a conference, and that networking might be the biggest plus you come home with. Â  Sixth, plan your clothes. Sounds like a woman thing, right? Wrong. Youll be sitting for long periods of time. You might have to trek up and down stairs or from one end of the motel to the other to make classes. Look sharp but make it comfy. Throw in a scarf, the boots, or those special pieces of jewelry. Give the person you meet something to remember you Seventh, pack your writing stuff to include: = two copies of your WIP (just in case) = business cards (dont say WRITER/AUTHOR on it and avoid Vistaprint templates) = notebook Youll not only take notes, but youll dabble on your WIP as these productive ideas come to you in class. Ive rewritten chapters in class before as the teacher led me to a new concept. = name tag Theyll give you one, but consider having a permanent, professional one made. I have two: one with a magnet and one with a pin, so that they can go on anything I wear. People remember tags, and if yours is unique, theyll remember you more. = one-sheets See this article on one-sheets. These are marvelous if you are pitching and speak volumes about your creativity and professionalism. https://fundsforwriters.com/something-to-remember-you- Before the last day, take a moment to go over your notes and goals and determine what youre lacking, then approach the teacher, writer or agent while you can. Walk up and ask the question. Thats why they are there, and what you paid for. You can do this, and you can do it better if you go prepared.

Shipping Law , contact and disputed Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Shipping Law , contact and disputed - Assignment Example It is inchoate from the moment the claim or privileges attaches, and when carried into effect by legal process by a proceeding in rem, relates back to a period when it attaches† (cited Mandaraka-Sheppard 22). On the other hand, an in rem action, as opposed to an action in personam, is one that attaches on property rather than on a person. In the maritime context, it attaches on the ship or on the cargo rather than on the ship-owner or the cargo owner. Thus, once a writ is issued by the court in an action in rem, a warrant for the arrest of the ship or cargo, rather than on the ship-owner or the cargo owner, can be applied next to secure the claim even before judgment. Lord Justice Moulton said in The Burns [1907] P137, â€Å"the action in rem is an action against the ship itself. It is an action in which the shipowners may take part, if they think proper, in defence of their property, but whether or not they will do so is a matter for them to decide, and if they do not decide to make themselves party to the suit in order to defend their property, no personal liability can be established against them in that action. It is perfectly true that the action indirectly affects them† (Chan et al 21). Maritime liens, however, are complicated issues because of the usual conflicts of laws involved. For one, there is no single rule on what constitutes maritime liens although there are the so-called traditional maritime liens and statutory maritime liens. The former refers to liens that have become so by practice in the admiralty world whilst the latter are those which are prescribed in statutes of statutes. Under English law, for example, the traditional liens, as enumerated in the case The Ripon City [1897] P 266 (242) (Adm) are â€Å"bottomry, salvage, wages, disbursements, liabilities, and damage† and arise automatically, ipso facto, upon the occurrence of the fact without notice or formality, remaining in and following the ship or cargo from owner to owner, including

Dominating the poem Essay

Ode to Nightingale is an antithesis of life and death, with death very much dominating the poem (Keats suffered from tuberculosis, and his description of men suffering in Ode to a Nightingale could indicate that he himself was in great pain when he wrote the poem), whereas The Prelude describes a conflict between man and nature, and Ode to Autumn is simply admiring an aspect of nature. However, Keats and Wordsworth both allude to ideals expressed in the philosophical viewpoint Romanticism. Wordsworth thought that the individual could understand nature without society or civilisation, and this is the stance that he takes in The Prelude. The metaphor of a single person in a boat in the middle of a huge lake represents one person in isolation from society. The mountain that towers over the person in the boat represents the raw power of nature, so much more powerful than a mere human (a Romantic ideal is that nature comes first, while people and their thoughts and activities come second. Wordsworth takes it to extreme in The Prelude with his descriptive comparison of the â€Å"huge peak, black and huge† and the â€Å"little boat†. The imagery comes across very vividly in the poem, and man seems insignificant when compared with the â€Å"huge and mighty forms, that do not live like living men†.) Keats also expresses his idea of the power of nature, but from a different viewpoint. He does not see nature as raw, wild power that is a colossus compared with trivial humans. He instead regards nature as a friend in suffering (in Ode to a Nightingale: â€Å"Now more than ever it seems rich to die†¦while thou art pouring thy soul abroad†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ) and as a thing with its own magic (Ode to Autumn: â€Å"Where are the songs of Spring?†¦Think not of them, thou hast thy music too†) In Ode to a Nightingale Keats also sees the nightingale as a thing of immense spiritual power, something so powerful that it can trigger his imagination and send him into a fantasy world of â€Å"verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways† where he can forget his pain for a short while, even though afterwards he is forced to realise that his poetry cannot help him escape his pain permanently (â€Å"the fancy cannot cheat so well as she is fam’d to do, deceiving elf.†) This is another similarity which the two writers share: they both describe spiritual experiences that have happened to them. Wordsworth describes the effect that the view of the megalith mountain had on him (â€Å"but after I had seen that spectacle, for many days, my brain worked with a dim and undetermined sense of unknown modes of being†) and describes his feelings of â€Å"solitude† and â€Å"blank desertion† that were â€Å"a trouble† to his dreams. Keats uses a lot of very entrancing imagery (â€Å"soft incense†, â€Å"embalmed darkness†, â€Å"pastoral eglantine†, â€Å"musky rose, full of dewy wine† and â€Å"murmurous haunt of flies† all create a very clear picture of the fantasy world Keats has conjured up in his imagination, influenced by the song of the nightingale) and emotive language (the poem is full of exclamations such as â€Å"Away!†, â€Å"Adieu!† and â€Å"Folorn!† that seem almost like laments, especially in the case of â€Å"thou wast not born for death, immortal Bird!†) in Ode to a Nightingale, succeeding in drawing the reader into an bond with his thoughts where they can see, hear and smell everything that Keats is experiencing. This sort of empathy through poetry is very difficult to achieve, though Keats also manages it in Ode to Autumn through his descriptions of â€Å"season of mists and mellow fruitfulness†. Keats does not reflect much on his experience in Ode to a Nightingale, except only to wonder â€Å"was it a vision, or a waking dream?†¦Do I wake or sleep?† However, this last question lets the reader themselves reflect on the meaning of the nightingale (though throughout the poem the references to â€Å"easeful death† and â€Å"Darkling† make it obvious that the bird symbolises death.) Keats and Wordsworth have widely different styles of writing. Their poems greatly differ in language form and structure, especially between Wordsworth’s simple language and Keats’ traditionally embellished diction. However, both poets have had troubled times in their lives, and their poems (Ode to a Nightingale and The Prelude) reflect this. They both portray their spiritual encounters with nature as having had a great effect on them, which is in keeping with the Romantic ideals of nature and spirituality. They also express their Romantic views of nature as a source of power, though they have different views on the type of power that nature possesses.

Income statement

The following set of numbers represents my net operating cash flow: IQ -$339,925, Q -$108,188 Q -$42,128, Q $197,078. Based on my pro-formula cash flow which were for IQ -$339,925, Q – $108,792 Q -$109,915, Q $539,469, and going back and understanding the concept of pro-rata formula and budgets, I was not successful in implementation of these concepts. The reason being is that my projections in comparison of my results, I was if by $342,391. The first three quarters it appears that my decisions were successful as my results were beating my projections, but by making the decision to â€Å"throw all my chips in† I did not apply any decision making strategy, which proved to hurt my results.I definitely think that if I were to complete the simulation again I would be able to apply pro-formula statements and budgets successfully, with knowledge, throughout all four quarters. In successfully applying the pro-formula concept; I would have been able to take my numbers end from the previous quarter, such as inventory, accounts receivable, and fixed assets, and used my computer based so, I could make any necessary adjustments, like reduce my manufacturing costs or increase production and marketing costs to have a better bottom line at the end of that quarter. This process would have allowed me to make logical and intentional decisions had I fully understood the concept during the simulation. 2. A.The Just in Time approach was designed and first implements by the Toyota manufacturing company in Japan. It's entire purpose and concept is to optimize the production process while eliminating waste. Waste is considered to be things such as, but not limited to; cost of inventory, defective items, and the time an employee sends waiting for equipment or supplies to come in (Roy, 2005, p. 160-161). The following are the results for each quarter in regards to my ending inventory; IQ O Q 23 Q 113 Q 0. The fact that my ending inventory increased each quarter shows that I really wasn't quite sure what I was doing, but after reviewing the lessons, I realize that my increase in ending inventory ended up costing the company money. The way that I could have implemented the Just in Time approach, is to better understand what the actual demand for my product was and then to adjust my production levels based on the actual sales of the previous quarter. If I were able to implement the approach, I would have been able to set my base production level lower than what my projections were incase sales dropped, but then if I were to seeing sales pick up, I could increase my production and order supplies as necessary. This would greatly increase my operational efficiency as it would reduce my ending inventory and only be ordering and using the supplies needed, thus reducing the cost and time to the customer and increasing my profits and customer satisfaction. B.Lean Operations being externally and have a more central focus on the customer, meaning that the process can be optimized by adjusting operations and processes based on a customer perspective (Higher, Render, 2011, p 636). Unfortunately due to my confusion during the simulation I did not apply the concept. If I had been able to apply the concepts though I would have developed a system that could have allowed me to better predict my customers' wants rather than guessing as well as putting my clients' needs first. The first way that I could have been successful is Just by simply choosing the correct target audience. In doing so, I could've saved a lot of time and money on marketing and focused those resources into activities that would further support and enhance my business.Since the overall goal of lean operations is to remove all non-value add activities, if I were able to implement this strategy, I would have been much more successful as my cost would be lower as well as had higher sales results based on better customer satisfaction. All of this would in turn allow my business to be running closer to optimum operational efficiency. . Work cells allow a single product to be developed further in stage by a single machine/area and don't require movement to a separate location to continue development. This is generally an automated process done so by machines, which the newer machines can be combined with older ones, therefore reducing the company's need to replace expensive machinery more frequently. There is great benefit to this process as it eliminates the buildup of inventory at various parts to their next phase in completion.Cost would also be reduced as work cells typically require fewer workers, thus reducing labor costs. In the simulation, since my product had so many different parts and assembly requirements, work cells would greatly benefit this type of industry as the individual parts can all be assembled in separate work cells and then brought together for final assembly. While initially my cost with straight line production are lower as it requires l ess training and less accountability of the employees, work cells would end up being cheaper in the long run. The simulation also did not account for employee happiness which work cells would have a direct effect on.Due to employees being less engaged ND not being required to be accountable for the products quality in a straight line production, they would be unhappy with work and in turn be less productive. By implementing work cells, I would create a sense of pride and empowerment in the employees thus improving productivity as well as quality. I would also be able to hold the separate cells accountable for their finished products and praise where appropriate or reprimand when necessary. By using work cells, I would be completely content with paying a larger cost initially to increase productivity and quality in the Eng run; thus after a certain amount of time, work cells would actually be cheaper and save the company money and inevitably increase profits. 4.As previously stated, my decisions during the simulation were not based on any definite rational as I became lost and confused rather quickly, but I am able to look back on the simulation and consider it more as a what-if and apply the safety stock concept in theory. In the simulation, since the company was a new business, safety stock would have been a very useful concept to utilize. At the beginning all of my projections were Just hat, projections, they were not founded on historical numbers. By apply the safety stock concept; I would have given myself the appropriate safety net to allow for my projections to align with the actual demand of the product without any interruption to manufacturing. When reviewing my ending inventory for each quarter, I have come to the conclusion that I ended up with too much safety stock and incurred more carrying costs than were necessary. I could have decreased my production, thereby reducing my ending inventory, and lowering my carrying costs. 5. My preferred mutinous i mprovement program that I would have liked to implement in my company would be Six Sigma. I like this program as it provides a comprehensive, thorough investigation into all aspects of the company and focuses specifically on taking past errors and identifying how they could have been prevented. Particularly in the simulation the first area I would have evaluated and fixed would be management. The company would have fared much better had I been in partnership with an individual who had a better knowledge base and understanding of how to run a company. By applying Six Sigma though, it allows the focus to be placed on one rear of the business at a time, and then while the next area is being evaluated, the previous one is able to begin implementing the recommendations, based on the finds that came out of its own evaluation. Income statement The following set of numbers represents my net operating cash flow: IQ -$339,925, Q -$108,188 Q -$42,128, Q $197,078.

British effects on native americans essays

British effects on native americans essays As the discovery of the New World progressed, large numbers of white men and women migrated to the North American continent, and profoundly altered Native Americans lives culturally and economically. Wherever they lived Indians discovered that conquest strained traditional ways of life. Mostly all Native American groups were forced to devise new ways to survive in physical and social atmospheres that eventually eroded tradition One of the leading pioneers for exploration of the New World was the British. As they migrated onto the North American continent, the British brought along with them an ethnocentric attitude. Which meant from the beginning they thought of the Native Americans as lesser people and that their culture, and way of conducting their economy was wrong. With this attitude, the British tried to civilize the Indians by making them dress like colonists, and force them to ac-cept Christianity. These forced changes were a stepping stone to the diminishing of Native American culture. In addition to that, the British also brought with them disease. Since Native Americans had little natural immunity to common European diseases, when they were exposed to influenza, typhus, measles, and especially small pox they died in the millions. This rapid spread of disease caused a huge blow to the Native American population, sometimes wiping out entire tribes and along with them their entire culture wo uld be erased. The fur trade, more than any other activity, contributed to the white exploration and opening of the wilderness and it led to extensive contacts between whites and Indians. All the colonial powers, especially the British, were involved in the mass commercial exploitation of animal skin. Competition among the European nations and among the Indian tribes for the fur trade was a major factor in many of the intertribal conflicts and colonial war. ...

How Many Cups Is 4 Quarts A Conversion Guide

How Many Cups Is 4 Quarts A Conversion Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips One of the types of questions you’ll see on both the SAT exam and the ACT exam are word problems. You know, situations where you’re given real-world scenarios, and you have to figure out the answer to a particular question based on the data you’re given. It’s common to see conversions in word problems. Conversions ask you to change a value from one form of measurement into another. In today’s article, we’re going to cover one specific type of measurement conversion: imperial volume conversion. Specifically, we’re going to show you how to figure out how many cups are in 4 quarts. (Spoiler alert: 16 cups are in 4 quarts!) We’ll teach you: The math formula for converting cups to quarts How to figure out how many cups is 4 quarts by figuring out the cups to quarts conversion How to read a chart that explains different imperial volume conversions Ready? Let’s dive in! Measurement Systems: Imperial vs Metric Volume measurements like ounces, cups, and quarts are all part of the imperial system of measurement, which is the primary method of measurement used in the United States. (Most of the world uses the metric system.) The metric system uses a base 10 system, meaning each measurement increases by a factor of 10. That’s why it’s so easy to convert in the metric systemall you have to do is move the decimal point left or right depending on the unit. So for example, it’s easy to convert 320 milliliters to centiliters...you just move the decimal point one position to the left. And voila! You’ve converted 320 milliliters to 32 centiliters! Unfortunately, the imperial system doesn’t use a base 10 system, which means conversions are much more confusing. In order to do imperial conversions correctly, you have to either a) memorize the different conversion values or b) use a conversion chart. That’s the most important factor in figuring out our quarts to cups conversion! But don’t worry. We’ve provided you a handy-dandy conversion chart below, and we recommend bookmarking this article so you’ll always have it handy! Quart to Cup Conversion: The Math Formula Okay, now that you understand how tricky conversions can be, let’s walk through one so you can see how to use a conversion chart to convert imperial measurements. Go ahead and scroll down to the chart. Follow the instructions in that section to figure out how many cups are in a quart. Did you do it? Then you know that four cups equals one quart! To write that as a mathematical formula to solve our conversion problem, we need to think about what we now know. We’ve figured out that there are four cups in one quart, which looks like this as a mathematical expression: 1Q = 4C In this case, â€Å"Q† stands for quarts and â€Å"C† stands for cups. (These aren’t variables you need to solve for.) Now all we have to do is work this equation. How Many Cups Is 4 Quarts? Okay, now that you know how to do the math, let’s figure out how many cups are in four quarts! To start off, let’s go back to our equation: 1Q = 4C Now, let’s think about what we know. We know we have four quarts, so we’ll have to multiply the left side of the equation by four to get the right value. But as you’ve learned, you can never change one side of the equation without doing the same thing to the other side. That means you’ll have to multiply the right side by four, too. Here’s what that looks like: 4 * 1Q = 4 * 4C Once we work that out, the final expression looks like this: 4Q = 16C In other words, we now know there are 16 cups in 4 quarts, and you’ve finished your conversion! How to Find Other Conversions Now that you know how to solve questions like â€Å"how many cups is 4 quarts,† you can do the same for any other imperial conversion on our conversion chart. The fundamental steps are always the same: Figure out what value you have and what value you need. Ask yourself, â€Å"what do I know† to find the value you have, and â€Å"what do I need to know† to find the value you need. Check the chart to get the right factor. You’re trying to figure out the 1 to 1 ratio here. So for our equation, it was four cups in 1 quart...but it could be anything! For example, if you wanted to work backward from quarts to cups, you’d have to multiply both sides of the equation by .25 instead. Set up the conversion as an expression. This is where you set the value you have as equal to the value you need. Multiply, multiply, multiply! Multiply both sides by the correct factor. And that’s it! It’s a little more work to do than metric conversions. But once you understand how conversion works, it’s a piece of cake! Volume Conversion Chart Like we mentioned earlier, the easiest way to figure out imperial conversions is to reference an imperial volume conversion chart. That’s why we’ve included a conversion chart here! Here’s how to use it for a quarts to cups conversion: Find the value that you know in the left column. So, if we’re trying to figure out how many cups is 4 quarts, we know how many quarts we have. That means we want to locate â€Å"quarts† in the left column. Now, find the value you want to convert to in the top row. In this case, we want to find â€Å"cups.† Go ahead and try that for yourself below: Tbsp. Cups Pints Quarts Gallons 1 Tbsp. - 1/16 1/32 1/64 1/256 1 Cup 16 - 1/2 1/4 1/16 1 Pint 32 2 - 1/2 1/8 1 Quart 64 4 2 - 1/4 1 Gallon 256 16 8 4 - You’ve now figured out that there are four cups in one quart, which is what you’ll use to solve our particular problem. But now that you have this chart, you can use the method we outlined above to do almost any conversion! What's Next? Conversions are just one type of math problem you might face. Respond to 2 students papers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Respond to 2 students papers - Essay Example The fact that the Black friend did not mean to underpin the White guy shows that racial perception are deeply integrated into our society, and the elimination of the same is difficult. On a higher and sexual orientation level, it provides a crucial understanding of the racial differences when it comes to the LGBTQ identity. A similar assertion on microaggressions is adequately covered and properly researched. Indeed, you claim that it is difficult to point out when this practice occurs correct according to research. Your integration of gender and race in the same is an attractive way of showing your understanding of the topic and the factors around them. In your claim of the most prevalent type of microaggressions, government and workplace depict the primary sources of the same. Specifically, this shows that you are up to date with the modern society and concerned with the events around you. Finally, you conclusion about our socialization about gender perception and identity is profound. Celine, the truth in your post is captivating, and it got me thinking of how many times I have had a non-verbal thought about the disabled and the LGBTQ individuals. For this reason, I have to congratulate you for not only triggering my thought on the same, but also expressing a reality in the society that most of us find it hard to accept. Indeed, most people act what they do not think because the social values and norms prohibit some behaviors. Additionally, as you argue about sexual orientation, gender, gender identity,  transgender, and gender nonconforming  microaggressions, I agree that each person has a right to choose their personality. Although there is the social stereotype based on race and gender, every person is equal and has an independent conscious to make their private choices. Your cultural competence and racial acceptance is exceptional and illuminates what the society should look like. Although not everyone can learn

Bullet Velocity Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Bullet Velocity - Research Paper Example A bullet is a metallic projectile loaded in cartridges and fired from firearms, the cartridge consists of a cartridge case, propellant charge, primer, and bullet. Pulling the trigger strikes the primer which in turn ignites the gunpowder, high pressure is built which propels the bullet forward and ejects the casing. The flight path of a bullet includes travel down the barrel, path through the air, and path through a target or wounding (Fackler, 1996). The burning gunpowder produces pressure given by Force divided by Area and the larger the barrel the greater the acceleration of the bullet. It is difficult to measure forces within the barrel but the velocity at which the bullet exits the barrel (muzzle velocity), can easily be calculated (Bruner et al, 2011), and is given in feet per second. Bullet velocities are classified as below 1000 fps, 1000-2000 fps and above 2000 fps as low, medium and high velocity respectively. (Wilson, 1997) (Wilson, 1997) Bullet Velocity Initial/Internal B allistics Pressure exerted on the bullet by the burning powder is given by Pressure=Force/Area Whereby: Area = base of bullet= diameter of barrel = constant Energy transmitted to the bullet thus depends on: 1. Mass (ponds) 2. Time of travel (seconds) 3. Time interval over which force is applied (seconds) 4. Barrel length (metres) The pressure and time is related as shown in the graph below Pressure Time over which force is applied As the bullet travels through the barrel, it phases minor deformations called setbacks resulting from imperfections in the barrel, however, the effect of this deformations are negligible (Jandial et al, 2008) External Ballistics/In Air to the Target This can be determined from Kinetic energy formulae as follows: Let: m=mass of bullet a=acceleration of the bullet x=distance travelled From Newton’s second law F=ma †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦(1) Then; Work done is given by work done=ma(x) From the expression v2=u2+2ax (Zitzewitz et al, 1995) Wh ere: v=final velocity u= initial velocity =0 since the bullet starts from rest Thus; a=v2/2x †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ (2) Substituting eqn(2) into equation of work Work done = mv2x / 2x †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ (3) Since work done=Kinetic energy Kinetic energy of bullet, KE=mv2 2 Rearranging for velocity V2 = 2KE M Velocity, V= (2KE M) †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦.(4) OR Let W = Weight in grains. Then M = W/ (7000grains per pound 32 ft/s) where: 32 ft/s – gravitational acceleration Kinetic Energy = WV2/450435 ft/lb Hence velocity, V= (KE450435 W) This is the bullets velocity as it leaves the muzzle. This velocity is affected by Drug as it heads towards the target. Let f (v/a) - ratio of velocity of bullet to velocity of sound in the medium of travel k- Constant for shape of the bullet &- constant for yaw p- Density of medium d- Diameter of bullet Drug, D = f (v/a) k&pd2v2 The degree to which a bullet is slowed by drug is calle d retardation given by Retardation, r = D/M Velocity is thus given by misery Velocity, V = (KE450435 W) – D/M A bullet fired straight upwards will slow down, stop and fall back to earth obeying the lows of free fall. It accelerates until it reaches a point where its weight equal to resistance of the air, this velocity is called terminal velocity (Cecil 2012). The formulae for free fall is expressed as V= ? gt where: g—gravitational acceleration t—time of fall References Bruner D, Gustafson CG, Visintainer C. Ballistic injuries in the emergency department. The Storm of 1928 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Storm of 1928 - Essay Example The overwhelming number of dead bodies were just too much for the rescue team. With just a number of days the wetness and the sun that set the place made the bodies decay beyond recognition. Some of the bodies were burnt in the fire as there was nowhere the bodies could be taken for burial. This points to a lack of the preparation measures of such a disaster.  The evacuation measures that could be used to save people in case flood struck were largely lacking. Apart from those who instantly died from the overflowing water, others died as they tried to find their way to a safe place. They would travel long distance where the flood had thrown them without finding any help. Frail and weak, many of them died while in search for food and shelter. If there were a good rescue measure, some of these people could have been saved. For instance, use of state resources such as military helicopters that could have been sent to rescue the survivors.  The technological advancement perhaps has ma naged to enable things that were impossible do back then in 1928. For instance, the detectors that can be used to warn of any changing cyclone movement in oceans that would be alert of any impending danger. Despite the limit of the technology back then, there were alerts made through the Radio. The government should have made efforts to relocate those people close to the coastline. The fact some people went around telling others of the impending hurricane cannot be used as a justification that proper information was given to the victims.
